Days Gone

When days gone came out on playstation I thought the trailer looked cool. A dude cruising round on a motorbike, killing zombies and doing what it takes to survive. The trailer made it look amazing and I couldn’t wait to play it. But then I never bought it. I don’t know why. I didn’t necessarily hear bad things about it. It just slipped out of my awareness. Now, a few years later, the former playstation exclusive has been ported to PC. And now it’s doing much better. I bought it. I’m playing it. I’m really enjoying the game! The game starts with the usual zombie tropes. The world is ending. The zombies have taken over and you’re doing what you can to get out. It’s you (Deacon), your wife Sarah and your buddy Boozer. You and Boozer are a couple of bad-ass bikers and it looks like you can handle your shit. Sarah is getting by too - but then, suddenly she is stabbed by a little kid. It’s bad. She’s not looking too good. But luckily you make it to the roof where there is a chopper about to take off. From that point on it’s you and Boozer doing your best to survive in this crazy new world. You guys are “drifters” - those who don’t belong to any camp and make their own way in the world. You as Deacon want to track down what happened to Sarah while at the same time looking after Boozer and other friends you make along the way. The story isn’t groundbreaking and does rely on a lot of the cliche zombie tropes. But having said that, the story does actually get quite engaging as the game goes on. The gameplay is fun and exciting. The difficulty ramps up towards the end of the game. It is open-world and can be a bit repetative at times. I wish it would have been clearer which missions were the main-story missions so I could have fast-tracked it a little more. It took me about 48 hours to finish. This included the main story and a lot of the side missions. The graphics are really nice and the world is immersive. Highly recommend: especially if you’re into zombie, post-apocalyptic, open-world games. Getting this on sale would give you a lot of bang for your buck.
